Re-Discovering Montessori's Transformational Legacy - American Montessori Society 2020 Conference - Dallas, TX - USA

Participants will discover how Dr. Montessori's legacy is once again validated through modern scientific research, and how her methodology is transformational at its core and essence, as well as the relevance and importance of such characteristic in the education and upbringing of future generations.

Participants will discover the most important experiences that are correlated to a life of flourishing and empowerment, what were the gifts behind those experiences, who are the adults that have the power to generate future empowerment for a child and what needs to be present in the experience for it to be truly transformational.

Participants will leave with an invitation to re-connect with the passion that lead them to become Montessori teachers and to take transformational actions in their own life and classroom.

Discovering Early Experiences that Correlate to an Empowered and Flourishing Adulthood - American Montessori Society 2019 Conference - Washington, DC - USA

This lecture is oriented towards parents and teachers interested in their own personal growth and transformation, conscious of the importance that they have in the life of the children they care for.  The “Significant Adult” in the life of a child has the capability of providing empowerment for a flourishing future adulthood of such child.

Discovering experiences that correlate to a flourishing life can bring opportunities for world transformation. If some of those experiences can be shared with conscious parents and teachers, the probabilities for increasing happiness and flourishing in the world are higher.

In this conversation, Dr. AnaMaria Rivera presents the results of her investigation, focused on exploring early childhood experiences that contribute to an empowered and happy life.  The main research question was: “What are some early childhood experiences that are correlated to a future adulthood of empowerment and flourishing? And is unconditional loving a common element in the majority of them?”

This lecture will present the details of this interesting scientific research and will explain the results obtained, the most significant variables, the crucial experiences in the life of a child that are correlated with a life of happiness, the role of parents, teachers and caregivers in generating these experiences and the “ways of being” of the adult that have a direct impact in the life of the child.

Finally, Dr. Rivera will present relevant conclusions to the impact of parents and teachers in the life of the child and parallels to the Montessori Methodology and transformational parenting and teaching.

The research focused on exploring experiences during childhood that correlate to an adult life of empowerment and flourishing Of particular interest was observing whether unconditional loving is present in those experiences as the common foundational element associated with empowerment and flourishing. Based on this narrowed interest, the research question was defined as: What are some of the experiences during childhood that correlate to an adult life of empowerment and flourishing and is unconditional loving a common element in the majority of them?

There were sub-questions that were explored in parallel with this main research question:

  • If unconditional loving is not the common element in the majority of experiences that correlate to an adult life of empowerment and flourishing, what is?

  • Is there a particular “significant adult” that played a key role during childhood, in the future capacity of living a life of empowerment and flourishing? (teacher, parent, caregiver, family member, mentor, etc.)

  • What are the “ways of being” of that significant adult that were a manifestation of unconditional loving, or that were the basis for a life of empowerment and flourishing.
